Learners from Hangberg and Imizamo Yethu are rewarded for their dedication with a visit to Ster Kinekor

This past, Friday 18 August, was a time to celebrate commitment and dedication as 127 Grade 8 and 9 learners from Hout Bay and Silikamva High Schools in Hout Bay, visited the Ster Kinekor cinema at Blue Route mall. This special excursion was organised by the After School Game Changer in the Western Cape Government together with the Hout Bay Partnership, to reward learners who consistently attended after school programmes throughout the http://www.viagrabelgiquefr.com/ term.

Project coordinator for the After School Game Changer, Bridget Hannah, said “By 2019 our goal is to have 112,000 learners from no-fee and low-fee schools across the province participating in quality after school programmes, and to ensure their regular attendance by significantly improving the attractiveness and quality of such programmes. In these two schools, the Hout Bay Partnership are testing whether offering incentives to high school learners who regularly attend after school activities will attract more learners and improve their overall attendance.”

Public Sector, account manager, Siphokazi Somana from Ster-Kinekor, said they were “delighted to come on board as a partner and that part of our strategic vision is to always broaden our audience base and give young people from disadvantaged communities the chance to enjoy our great cinema experience”. The learners were treated to the full Ster-Kinekor movie experience, where they received a popcorn, soft-drink and some sweets on arrival.

A grade 8 learner from Silikamva High School responded to the movie outing saying, “It’s a great thing and it’s fun, because it will make more people come and join the afterschool programme when they hear the exciting things we do”.

Hannah said: “the After School Game Changer is a priority of the Western Cape Government because evidence has shown that regular learner attendance at quality comprehensive after school programmes can improve educational outcomes, reduce drop-out rates and risky behaviour, increase self-confidence, and improve potential for tertiary education and work placement.”
