The City of Cape Town has five strategic focus areas: to grow opportunities, to make Cape Town a safer place, to create a more caring city, to make the city more inclusive and to ensure the city is well run.  The City of Cape Town nominates a person to be on the Board of the Hout Bay Partnership and has provided funding to support work on promoting economic development in Hout Bay in line with it’s motto “Making progress possible, together”.

The Western Cape Government is committed to delivering an open opportunity society for all and, in line with its motto, “better together”, has provided seed funds to support the establishment of the Hout Bay Partnership.   The Provincial government’s strategic priorities include creating opportunities for economic growth and jobs, improving educational outcomes and youth opportunities, increasing wellness and safety, tacking social ills, and enabling resilient, inclusive, and sustainable quality living environments. These are aligned with, and support, the purpose of the Hout Bay Partnership.  The Province also nominates a person to be on the Board of the Partnership.

The DG Murray Trust has five focus areas where they believe their investments will have the most impact: Resourceful Young Children, Creative Learners, Enterprising School Leavers, Game-Changing Leaders and Inclusive, Enabling Communities. DGMT is partnering with the Hout Bay Partnership in our learner Incentive Framework & Peer Mentorship programme in Silikamva and Hout Bay High Schools.

Connectors, facilitators and translators, working to help people find a common language and a shared set of priorities specific to projects that can make a positive impact in people’s lives. Open Africa is a social enterprise that works with small businesses to establish rural tourism routes that offer travelers authentic experiences, while generating income and jobs for local people. Open Africa is partnering with the Hout Bay Partnership to develop local tourism enterprises.

All Out Africa offers inspirational travel experiences in amazing destinations in southern Africa provided by an experienced and dedicated team. All Out Africa is a group of companies based in South Africa, Swaziland, Mozambique and Botswana. It includes a non-profit foundation, social enterprise and responsible travel business. The non-profit foundation arm implements important social and conservation projects and runs two research centers. The social enterprise arm offers volunteer, student and internship experiences which do social and environmental good. The responsible travel business arm offers responsible cultural, wildlife and adventure tours and runs two lodges. Our goal is to share our passion for southern Africa’s people, places and wildlife with the world and offer experiences that change lives.

Bright Start has for the last seven years been providing access to quality education to children from the age of three upwards in the historically disadvantaged communities of Imizamo Yethu and Hangberg. In order to expand their impact and empower parents with a basic foundation of knowledge and skills necessary to create a home environment that encourages learning they launched their Community Workshop Programme and to date have delivered training and information to more than 600 parents in the area.

Workspace is a fully-equipped DIY workshop offering a selection of machinery, tools, training and services to enable craftsmen to set themselves up in business at a very low cost. It is a home for micro-enterprises and also seeks to connect individuals who need work done with those who can do it. Reaching out to the less-skilled in the community, Workspace has been running the TEN project on an informal basis for the past two years; a short course that teaches participants the basics of ten skills, while at the same time educating them on principles around being and staying employed.

Amoyo is all-round performing arts NGO in Hout Bay for children from five to 18 years old. Over 100 youngsters attend regularly, most coming four days a week without fail to engage their bodies and minds in dance, music, speech and drama.

Original T-Bag Designs makes ‘Functional Art’ out of recycled tea bags. Used tea bags are dried, emptied, ironed then painted! Each artist has their own individual styles and patterns. There may be similarities, but no one painted tea bag is ­identical. These miniature works of art are then applied to stationary, wooden items like boxes, trays and coasters and even fabric items! For a group of previously disadvantaged people in Hout Bay near Cape Town, South Africa, one cup of tea has indeed provided community, love, excitement and financial security.

In 2014, Formula D interactive aims to launch its Not-for-Profit initiative, the Learning Innovation Design Lab in Cape Town. The goal is to find solutions to problems within the context of education here in South Africa, and beyond, by bringing together designers, technology partners, learners and teachers, whilst creating a showcase and testing space for existing innovation. LID is partnering with the Hout Bay Partnership to employ our Up For All Coding Programme alumni to run their Game Labs at Silikamva and Hout Bay High Schools.

Offering a solution designed and led by ex-offenders, Up For All (formerly Brothers For All) believes you cannot end poverty or crime in isolation. One feeds on the other. We offer aspirational technology skills that compete with crime and lift people out of poverty. And we offer them to offenders, ex-offenders and at-risk youth.

The Underdog project is a unique initiative that facilitates animal-assisted therapy sessions between DARG rescue dogs and disadvantaged youngsters – to great effect. After spending time completing the dog training programme, the teens display increased self-confidence, a gain in empathy and understanding of humane issues, and overall personal growth. The dogs in turn become more socialised which improves their chances of adoption.

Lumkani is a social enterprise that seeks to address the challenge of shack/slum fires in urban informal settlements in South Africa and across the globe. In 2016 A role out of Lumkani fire detection devices were installed in Imizamo Yethu in partnership with Thula Thula Hout Bay and the Hout Bay Partnership.

Harvest Youth Project creates opportunities and training within the Visual and Performing Arts sectors in Hout Bay in order to inspire and empower youth.

Promoting health education and networking with all organisations in Hout Bay that have an interest in health and welfare since 1995. In this way we can more easily meet the needs of the most vulnerable people in the community. Donation goods from service clubs in the area are distributed to the needy. Meet on the last Wednesday of every month 2:30 at the Hout Bay Library.

Proudly Hout Bay Women’s Forum aims to rally women, parents and grandparents across communities to work together to take the area back and affect positive change.

The Community Collaboration Forum (known as the IY Forum from 2011-2015) aims to solve problems holistically, enable networking and create a collaborative space within the social development sector of Hout Bay. This is done through regular meetings where all organizations attend, meet existing or new organizations, discuss issues arising, solve problems, and host events to help educate and unite the community. Over twenty organizations have taken part since the forum was established in 2011 and we invite you to nominate a member (or more) of your organization to join us.
