Introducing the Hout Bay Partnership

Why was the Hout Bay Partnership established?
Hout Bay is a microcosm of the challenges and opportunities facing Cape Town and South Africa as a whole. It is a place of cultural diversity, economic inequalities and disparities in living conditions across apartheid-induced spatial and racial lines, all within a geographically distinct and confined area.

In this context, the Hout Bay Partnership was established in 2014 with the purpose of promoting integrated social and economic development to improve the livelihoods and quality of life of all of Hout Bay’s residents.

What does the Partnership do?
The HBP actively supports and promotes existing initiatives, and develops and manages new initiatives, that are aligned with its purpose, that is, enhancing social inclusion, improving educational outcomes, promoting integrated economic and social development and improving the built and natural environment to improve people’s quality of life.

How does it work?
The HBP will achieve its goals through a partnership approach, bringing together residents, business and governments, and working across the communities of Hout Bay,for the common good.

What is distinctive about the Partnership?
The HBP pays dedicated and conscious attention to the social and economic development of Hout Bay as an integrated whole, taking into account the diverse needs, interests and perspectives of residents and businesses.
The HBP works through collaborative partnerships, seeking solutions with mutual benefits, and will not duplicate or compete with other initiatives.

The HBP is a not-for-profit company and is governed by an independent board of directors that reflects the diversity of Hout Bay and has the necessary skills to achieve its objectives.

The Hout Bay Partnership has established strong partnerships with both the the Western Cape Government (WCG) and the City of Cape Town (CoCT) and is developing partnerships with community organisations and businesses around specific initiatives through, for example, its microgrant program.

The HBP will uphold and promote the values of human dignity, integrity, transparency, diversity, and inclusivity.

How can I support the work of the Hout Bay Partnership?
HBP welcomes proposals from organisations in Hout Bay for partnerships and initatives that are aligned with the HBP’s purpose and values.

HBP welcomes voluntary contributors to the work of the Partnership.
